Before you connect your site with Google Analytics, you must signup for it. The process of sign up is simple, and you will need to have a Google account.
You can follow the given steps to signup for Google Analytics:
Step #1: First of all, head to Google Analytics homepage.
Step 2#: If you already have a Google account, you can log in. If not, you can sign up for a new account. After successful login, you will see the screen as shown below.
Step 3#: Click on Sign up button to initiate the process. On the next screen, you will be asked for the Account name, the traffic you want to measure on (choose Web) and then some details regarding your site as shown below.
After adding the details, click on Create. A popup will appear with terms and conditions. Go through it and click on, I Accept.
Step 4#: Once done, on the next screen, you will see the tracking code, as shown below. Copy this tracking code.
There are different ways to add Google Analytics to WordPress. You can directly add the tracking code in the theme file to insert in the header, use a plugin to enter the code or use any Google Analytics plugins like Site Kit, Monsterinsights, etc to view your stats in your WP dashboard directly.
Here I will illustrate how to add it using Insert Headers and Footers plugin. Go to your WP Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Search for “Insert Headers and Footers”. From the search result, click on install and then activate.

Once done, go to Settings > Insert Headers and Footers. Paste the tracking code that you have copied earlier in Scripts in Header section and click on Save.
At this point, you have successfully added Google Analytics to WordPress. You can verify it by inspecting your website. Go to your website and press (Ctrl or Cmd + U) to view your website source. You will see the Google Analytics code added in the head, as shown below.
Now that you have added Google Analytics to your WordPress site, it is useless if you don’t know how to use them efficiently and understand some basics.
To begin, you can click on the Home button to see the overview of your site.
On the left-hand side of your dashboard, you can see the Reports tab, which is the most important part and provides insights about your site.
